Bamboo Flooring Installing
Bamboo flooring installing is a fairly routine process. If a pre-finished product is used by the contractor or homeowner, the flooring can be delivered to the site and stored ready to be installed within the house or building. The method of installation will depend on the type of structure and the type of foundation or under flooring which is available.
Bamboo flooring installing,
like hardwood flooring installation, begins with a subfloor which is smooth
within a proscribed level. Standard installation procedures using a subfloor
mean that the flooring is nailed or stapled and glued to the subfloor to hold
it in place. When using this installation procedure, the important things to
remember is to start with a straight line along the room edge, using spacers
to align the first board. Placing of the first board in the proper position
is the critical beginning point. From there, each board is carefully fitted
into position using glue along the edge and nailing or stapling to the subfloor.
Care must be taken to ensure that the board lengths are varied during the bamboo
flooring installing, so that the horizontal seams on the floor do not line
up, but are staggered. Once the opposite wall or divider is reached, a single
board or series of boards are ripped to the correct width, leaving expansion
room of approximately 3/8”.
Moisture content of the bamboo flooring can create variance of the width of
the floor by as much as an inch or two across a room width. Bamboo flooring
is less affected by expansion and contraction across both length and width
than most other hardwood flooring which is a plus. Hardwood floor which are
incorrectly installed and expand due to moisture or temperature variations
can buckle or twist meaning expensive replacement procedures.
Bamboo flooring installing using
a floating floor technique is similar to installing a nailed or stapled floor,
but does not require stapling or nailing. There is no need for a subfloor using
this method, although it can be used if desired. When using this method, the
floor is first leveled as much as possible then a foam pad is laid in place,
both for additional leveling capabilities and for the sound deadening qualities
of foam. The boards are laid out from one side of the room to the other, again
allowing for expansion at the edge of the room, and varying the board length
to create uneven board end seams, so that the boards are random lengths. Each
individual board is glued and then locked in place using a soft mallet to reduce
the space between the boards. Tongue and groove design during bamboo
flooring installing ensures better sealing so that moisture does not travel through
to the underneath side of the flooring. A good seal with the adhesive is important,
as is cleaning off excess adhesive from the wood veneer top before it dries.
Floor edges are finished with base boards or molding as appropriate for the look desired in the room. The finished flooring has a beautiful varied pattern of light and dark bamboo strips modified by the joints of the bamboo for additional visual interest
